An educational resource on French carom billiards, built to be used table-side: it installs on your phone and works without a network connection.

What this is, and what it is not

This site is not an official resource of the French Billiards Federation, nor of any club or federation. It is a personal effort of formatting and synthesis, meant for individual practice. Where a page on this site disagrees with a federation text, the federation text prevails.

Where the content comes from, and how it is handled

Billiards has been taught for a long time. Basic technique, running an inning, calculation systems are described in training materials, club handouts and books. This site teaches the same facts — they belong to no one — without reusing how those documents present them. The rule holds on every page:

• No diagram is reused. Every drawing is redone for this site, and the balls sit in different positions from the original documents.
• No text is copied. The explanations are rewritten, in our own wording and our own order.
• No person is named. Methods sometimes carry a common name: that is the method's name, not an attribution.

What comes from the sources is the facts: the geometry of a table, the value of a ball fullness, the principle of a calculation system. Those facts belong to no one. How they are presented is redone here.

The families of sources used:

• the French Billiards Federation's training materials for basic technique and running an inning;
• club coaching handouts for balkline points and several practice situations;
• specialized literature for the cushion systems.

If you are the author of training material and a page on this site seems to go too far, write to us: it will be changed or removed.

Going further

This site covers the fundamentals and three calculation systems. To progress beyond that, other resources exist, some of them paid:

• Your club and its coach. Nothing replaces an outside eye on stance and cue action: the flaws listed in the Technique tab are visible from the outside, not from the inside. The F.F.B. and regional leagues list clubs (ffbillard.com).
• Video courses. Several coaches offer filmed lessons by subscription, notably on gathering play, balkline and rail-first systems — areas this site does not cover yet. A search for these game names brings them up.
• Books. Faszination Dreiband-Billard (carombooks) for the Conti system and three-cushion systems.

These resources are mentioned because they go further than this site on their subjects. None of their content is reused here: their explanations belong to them.

Your data

What you enter never leaves your device. The practice log, favorites, exercise tracking, quiz history and your settings are stored in your browser's local storage. There is no account, no ad, no cookie.

The site only measures its own traffic (pages opened, country, device type), with Cloudflare Web Analytics, an audience measurement tool presented by its publisher as cookie-free. Nothing from your log or your exercises is sent there.

Practical consequence: clearing your browser's site data also erases your log. Use Settings → Export from time to time, and Import on your new device.

Report an error

A questionable position, a wrong figure, wording that causes confusion: corrections are welcome, and on technical content they come from players.
